
General
Two-seat high-wing cabin monoplane. Compared to its sibling the 120 (which see) it has an electrical system, flaps and and rear cabin windows. The aircraft received its Approved Type Certificate number 768, amendment 5A2. Price ex-factory was US$ 3695. ICAO type designation is ‘C140’.
The Cessna 142 was a Cessna 140 with nosewheel. It was the functional prototype for the Cessna 150 (which see). A single prototype was build; no other information and no photographs are available.

History
The 140A is the successor to the original 140 (which see). It has an all-metal wing and a single wing strut compared to the 140s twin wing struts. The prototype made the first flight in January 1949. A total of 525 were build. Production started in 1949 and ended in 1951.
Airframe
wing: High-wing semi-cantilever strut-braced monoplane. Two-spar constant-chord structure of all-metal construction. Manually actuated plain flaps. Ailerons are entirely made of metal. Airfoil section NACA-23012.
fuselage: All aluminium-alloy monocoque structure.
tail: All-metal cantilever monotype; trim-tab in starboard elevator.
landing gear: Fixed tailwheel type landing gear with hydraulically actuated disc brakes and steerable tailwheel. Edo floats or skis optional.
Powerplant
- One Continental C90-12F horizontally-opposed, air-cooled 4-cylinder engine delivering 90 hp (67 kW).
- Engine drives a 2-blade fixed-pitch wooden propeller.
- Total fuel capacity 94 l (25 USG); 2 all-metal fuel tanks in wing.
