General
Tandem 2-seat sailplane designed for training. Aircraft has been exported to more than 40 countries, including the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia. Aircraft approved for aerobatics when flown solo.

History
Design started in January 1955, first flight was made in March 1956. A total of 2649 aircraft have been produced, most of which have been exported. Largest export customer was the USSR with more than 1300 aircraft delivered. Production was terminated at the end of 1978.
Airframe
wing: Cantilver shoulder-wing monoplane; all-metal 2-spar structure. Wing has 3º dihedral, 5º of forward sweep and 4º of incidence at the root, 1º at the wingtip. Slotted area-increasing flaps and ailerons have metal structure with fabric covering. Airbrakes on upper and lower surfaces of each wing.
fuselage: Semi-monocoque all-metal structure, with oval cross-section and with riveted skin.
tail: The stabilizer is a cantilever all-metal structure. Trim tab in elevator.
landing gear: Manually retractable monowheel with oleo-pneumatic shock-absorber and brake and a tailskid. Skis optional for operation in snow.

Electric gyro instruments optional for ‘blind’flying training if battery installed.
Accommodation
Pupil and instructor are seated in tandem under sideways hinged canopy, which in jettisonable in flight.
